In these colder months most of us love to run outside.  We love the way most of our friends tell us we are nuts, and we swell with pride at that moment.  We love how it makes us feel like a beast.  But there is a downside to running outside.  Well not really a downside, but there is a trick to it.  While most of us like to be warm, you would think that running outside means dressing warm.  But actually it doesn’t.  You should be a bit chilly when you step outside to run in the colder months, as your body will heat up as you run.  But you need to be careful that you are wearing clothes that can breath.  You will sweat, and that sweat needs to evaporate.  If you overdress and the sweat on your skin is not able to evaporate as it should you can find yourself in some trouble.  The trouble is called Heat rash, and it sucks.  Like just about any rash it will turn your skin red itchy and bumpy.  If not treated and taken care of sweat glands can become infected and the rash gets much harder to get rid of.  It may require you to see your doctor and get a steroid cream.  This is a very unpleasant condition to deal with, so please take care to avoid heat rash.   Moisture wicking base layers are a must. If price is an issue your local running store will most likely have some of last year's style of gear marked down. It will work just as well.. try to avoid random shops on Amazon. Odds are what you will get will not actually be moisture wicking. So dress appropriately for the weather and enjoy being "the beast" who runs outside no matter the weather.
