How social are you?

In today’s world we are both more and less connected. We are more connected in the sense that we know more about what is going on in each others lives. Which seems to play into the human nature of gossip. Thanks to things like facebook and Instagram. But we are less connected in the sense that we spend so much time on our social media channels and reading about what each other is doing that we do not make as much time to actually do things together. Which we could then post about! The dangers of the social media realm is that we can get wrapped up in reading about people's lives because that is easier than actually getting up and doing things. Now don’t think that this will be a social media bashing post, NO far from it. Social media does have a good side. Many people know I live on the Spectrum. Like some autistic adults I have issues with social interaction. Someplace with lots of people, or noise, or people crammed in moving all over the place can be very overwhelming. So I avoid them. And that is usually where most social interactions happen. While I can’t participate in that sort of environment, I can keep up to date (so to speak) thanks to social media. The key is to find a balance. Following on social media is fine, but be sure you make time to actually connect with in person. You can not replace the connections made when you take the time to spend with others. And Hug them, there are few things in life that will strengthen a connection between people like a hug.
